The more I listen to Ducktails the happier I become it would seem. Something about the primitive drum machines and the washed out, guitar fuzz tranquility that really works for me. It's obvious M.M crafts a fine tune but it's even better that he's happy for those ideas to be presented in such a ramshackle, home-recorded way. This 7" preview's three tracks from Ducktails forecoming LP 'Ducktails 3: Arcade Dynamic' (note the stupidly good name of this LP) in demo form. It begins with a little untitled intro jam before kicking in with 'Hamilton Road' (entitled 'Sitting' on this 7" for some reason) which sees M.M settling into jangly mode in much the same way he doe's with Real Estate. This leads us on to 'Art Vandelay' (note the reference to George Castanza's importer-exporter pseudonym in Seinfeld), a track that i believe Real Estate performed when i saw them at Primavera earlier in the year. This is the best of the tracks here and, in my opinion, it's a classic piece of indie rock songwriting that'll be treasured by many. Can't wait to hear the LP versions.
3-song teaser for the upcoming Ducktails full-length "Ducktails 3: Arcade Dynamics". Features home recorded demo versions of 3 tracks - includes "Sitting" (aka "Hamilton Road") & "Art Vandelay" which is a track that he has been regularly performing live with his side project Real Estate. Cover art by Petra Cortright.
