Autre Ne Veut - S/T

Well this is about the most 80s-sounding thing I've heard in a bit. Essentially what you've got here is a totally unapologetic pop album put through some sort of super hypnogogic filter. The first tune sounds exactly like Go West being mashed up by a half-asleep Lee Perry after a particularly heavy night before, the second sounds like Scritti Politti, the third sounds like Prince etc. etc. Your tolerance for it is no doubt gonna hinge on how much you enjoy/are amused by the likes of the above; if you're anything like Phil and Brian you'll be scraping the skin off your face with anger but the younger office cats are down with it. Maybe 'cos we're slightly more in the hypnogogic age catchment area? Who knows. He/she/they/it can definitely put an outrageous tune or two together.

"Autre Ne Veut (“I want no other”) was inscribed on the back of a gold and garnet hat ornament (ca. 1475) found at Hanley Castle in Worcestershire.  It is rumored to be the gift of an English Duke to his French mistress, but this is simply conjecture." - Metropolitan Museum of Art / The Cloisters, New York City

Debut lp by ANV. Co-release with Upstairs CD-R - the label run by Dan Lopatin (of Oneohtrix Point Never / Games). Mixed by Chris Coady at DNA Downtown, NYC.
