Growing Pains by Dinosaur Pile Up

5...according to our on Thu 30 Sep, 2010.

The first full lenghther from DPU is a hook ridden, uptempo rock beast that would sit nicely on most grungers shelves. It's cut from the same plaid material as other grunge rock acts, but with a more pop sensibility. Its a pretty consistant record with huge pounding drums and buzzsaw riffery. A dynamic and wholesome sounding record. I feel this feller owes a great debt to Bob Mould type songsmithery. It has some great tunes and the playing (all the instruments are capably played by the grunge master general Matt) and he really nails the whole thing. My favourite tracks are the single "Mona Lisa" which is power pop at its most erm..powerful and track 7 and 8 which are sweet fucking cuts of memorable grunge action..I cant recall the names but I am bonced out on life pipes. This is a veritable banquet of rock food, served up with a soupcan of tuneful sing along choruses. A hearty concotion...

· ‘Growing Pains’ is the sound of a one of the UK’s
most exciting bands hitting their stride.

· It comes, following a handful of introductory
independent releases over the past year and a bit,
after which the band's frontman and creative force
Matt Bigland entered Bridlington's Lodge Studios
with producer James Kenosha to record the debut,
taking place over January and February this year.

· The result is a storming rock powerhouse of big
pop songs driven by the kind of wall shaking
undercurrent only a three piece can muster.
