Produced by Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Lostprophets), ‘Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)’ adds an array
of new sounds (including sweeping synths and an insistent bassline) to the band’s famously immediate songwriting. The single will be released on CD and two 7” vinyl formats.
“We've approached this album slightly differently from the last,” explains drummer Dan Haggis. “Whereas the first album was
practically recorded live with a few overdubs, this time round we've had the time to really play with the sonics. Now we just can't wait to get out there and get sweaty.”
The Wombats are currently putting the finishing touches to their upcoming second album in the NRG Recording Studios in Los
Angeles. As well as Valentine, the Liverpool/Oslo trio have also collaborated on the project with super-producer Jacknife Lee
(U2, Snow Patrol, REM). Although the immediately infectious punky hooks that characterised their debut album are firmly in
place, their progression has been characterised with the addition of more leftfield touches and aggressive elements to their
sound. The band’s inimitable charm is also prevalent, although it has been streamlined into a darker, more serious approach.
Following the release of their debut album ‘The Wombats Proudly Present… A Guide To Love, Loss and Desperation’, the
band’s ascendency continued unabated. The Wombats completed two huge sold-out UK tours which included triumphant shows
at Brixton Academy, a unique one-off headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall and a massive homecoming show at the
10,000 capacity Liverpool Echo Arena. They were nominated for Best UK Act at the MTV Europe Awards, and played a plethora
of enormous festival appearances including a co-headline set on the NME/Radio 1 stage at Reading and Leeds as well as
storming sets at Glastonbury, T in the Park and the Isle of Wight Festival.
