This guy's a late-blooming demigod of smooth future electro-funk and everyone should go out and get Toeachizown in either its double CD or quintuple vinyl incarnations because it's an absolute beauty! Three quarters of this 12" involves alternate versions of tracks from the album, two with additional vocals (from MC Eiht and Steve Arrington respectively) and another re-edited by Devonwho. They're all pretty ace but it's always weird when you listen to slight variations on tracks you've already totally ingested... No matter how good they are it always sounds a bit 'wrong' somehow. Still, they're all pretty stylin' in any case. 'How Will It Be (Between U & Me)' is the only total newie and its soully lovey dovey lyrics pitch it somewhere between Stevie Wonder (the good shit) and The Real Thing (whose shit was all good.. Wasn't it?) Highly satisfactory, but try to get on the case with the album 'cos I think that's where the extreme goodness lies!
Dam Funk is joined on the vocal mix of ‘Hood Pass Intact’, the standout track from his ‘Toeachizown’ mega-album by West Coast legend MC Eiht, marking their first collaboration in nearly a decade. Most people remember MC Eiht as a member of Compton’s Most Wanted, and his role in the film ‘Menace 2 Society’ … but only the left coasters know and respect him as the originator of the phrase “Gyeah”, which has been bitten and jacked by every MC and rapper on the planet, including Jay Z. This EP’s other big hitter features the vocals of Steve Arrington of legendary funk outfit Slave on ‘4 My Homies’, a track released as a sneak-preview of Dam Funk & Arrington’s forthcoming album project. Also includes contributions from DevonWho on the instrumental re-edit of ‘Come On Outside’, and JT Donaldson and Tim K co-producing on ‘How It Be Between U & Me?’.
