You Won't Let Me Down Again by Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan

I kinda like these two. It sort of shouldn't work looking back at their careers, but they've somehow managed to make a good thing out of this pairing. I only heard a bit of the album and one of the songs was a bit Bon Jovi for me but this tune sounds a bit useful. Lanegan's gruff vocals over some twangy gritty (i'm sure that word must get used in all of their reviews) guitar with Isobel doing some backing vocals. She's pretty low in the mix compared to him and you can barely hear her. Mark always gets his own way I hear. Anyone who sounds like he eats a pack of marlboro for breakfast isn't worth messing with. Decent single though. Oh and James Iha is playing guitar on there as well which will maybe make someone out there happy? Hey, we all need jobs. Ha... I said jobs....

Their new album “Hawk” - written, produced and arranged by Campbell - is altogether more expansive affair than previous records & there’s not only a wider sweep of styles but often a more urgent approach which finds no better example than “You Won’t Let Me Down Again”. It sounds more like an old desert song, complete with deliciously twangy guitar. “A crack in the mirror tells of seven years of pain / And you won’t let me down again” growls Lanegan in his inimitable baritone, while JAMES IHA, formerly of Smashing Pumpkins, plays guitar. Ace!
