Cruising of the back of the excellent 'On Patrol' LP 'Off Duty' acts as a companion piece and could prove to be Sun Araw's most consistent jams yet! You know what to expect: rough 'round the edges production, vague incomprehensible vocal chants, astral dub with hints of jungle humidity and generally spaced out hypnagogic atmospherics. I reckon opener 'Last Chants' is the best of all the S.A tunes committed to tape so far. It's got some really dirty sounds in there complimented by some decent guitar licks, some heavy ass dub bass with a dose of tropical ambiance thrown in for good measure. Wish i was at home enjoying these sounds over a light afternoon lifepipe but alas, it's not to be. Totally recommended. Oh, CD comes with 'Boat Trip' tagged on to the end which is a double bonus. You lucky lads. Cheers Woodsist.
When the On Patrol test presses hit the turntables, an epilogueburst from the side of the Sun Araw cranium immediately, before it was even cold on wax. The camerajumped all by itself, spontaneous framing and new perspectives: Last Chants grips you in heavy, end-of-shift panic;who knew Holodeck Blues got so rowdy? Surroundedand staring down the barrels of some serious forces, thescum is rising. No worries: you got backup, don t forgetwho s wearing the badge. Flip the vision and make it allthe way down, it s your party. Midnight Locker is onechilled exhalation, all cold sweat and steam vents. The cabride home comes with AM radio ghosts, whispering againof that heavier zone, it s time to get back. The flip side ispure secret sun-day, sacred rest: the stairway to the stars. Deep Temple, float on up, the Heavy Deeds are waiting. Aristocrat P. Child
