Veronica Falls - Beachy Head / Staying Here

Beachy Head / Staying Here by Veronica Falls

4...according to our on Mon 06 Sep, 2010.

Again more impressive C86 style indie pop. They kind of sound like Black Tambourine or the Shop Assistants. There's have a lovely dark twist to their songs that hints at The Cramps. The guitars are murky and the drums barely veer from the floor tom and snare Bobby Gillespie thing and the female vocals belt along nicely struggling to fight through the mix. The B side is 50's influenced indie sounding like it was recorded in a faraway hallway. Hints of Heavenly and the like.

Now getting a US release on Captured Tracks...UK one is long gone..Like their debut UK single Found Love in a Graveyard , which spoke, beautifully, of unrequited love from beyond the grave, Beachy Head is yet another nugget of haunted pop classicism, complete with careening choruses, swoonsome harmonies and a deliciously nasty sting in its tail. As its repeated refrain of I m gonna miss you/ When you re gone attests, this isn t exactly an ode to the seaside, but instead something rather darker, menacing even the cloud in the clear blue sky, or the worm in the Pastels juicy pop apple.
