Kit - Invocation

Our album of the week (1st October 2010)

Invocation by Kit

5...according to our on Thu 30 Sep, 2010.

Kit fucking rule!!! You must know this? Comprising members of Chen Santa Maria, XBXRX and Warbler they create a awesome form of positive melodic hardcore that boasts experimentalist at it's core. There debut LP 'Broken Voyage' and their 'Dreams Are Burned' 7" (featuring Mike Watt of the Minutemen on bass) are two of my most treasured musical pocessions and rate as some of the coolest music to come out of the US underground in the last ten years. They kinda sound like Deerhoof if they we're slightly more hyperactive and and suffered from A.D.D. Even without seeing them live it's obvious that they love to rock out and they capture that energy here on 'Invocation'. I've been informed that this one was recorded on the fly with very little time to monkey with the arrangements and recordings as they did with 'Broken Voyage'. It doesn't suffer as a result, If anything they benefit from the spontaneity and sound all the better for it. Gotta applaud Upset The rhythm for sticking by this lot. Totally amazing band. Check it out.

This is the second full-length album, following their debut on Upset The Rhythm in 2008.

Invocation follows the release of limited 7 inch last year where KIT were joined by Mike Watt (Minutemen).

Recorded by Phil Evlrum (Mt Eerie, The Microphones).

Released in a digipack CD and on coloured (TBC) vinyl with printed inner sleeve.

K.I.T are a super-melodic experimental rock band from Los Angeles, California. They play very fast, short, defiant songs that fuck with the ideas of pop music and wayward punk. K.I.T songs can typically embrace hardcore rush, pop verse, jagged noise and cheer rally, all within the same moment - nothing but raw positivity and instinctive song writing
holding it all together.

K.I.T are Kristy (vocals), Steve (guitar), Vice Cooler (drums) and George (guitar). Said members also perform in XBXRX, Lil' Pocketknife, Hawnay Troof, Snowsuit*, Warbler, DJ Shitbird and Boxleitner.

To date the band have released three split 7 inch singles (with Thurston Moore/Kim Gordon, Deerhoof and Capatin Ahab), 2008’s debut album and last year’s new EP which saw Mike Watt (Minutemen etc.) join the band on second bass duties. All sold out rapidly on the back of the band's wildfire live shows, documented well on PPM’s recent video compilation.

Invocation sees them producing a decidedly more reflective and considered album. Recorded by Phil Evlrum (Mt Eerie, The Microphones) in his studio in Anacortes, Washington, it boasts his epic production duties and string arrangements courtesy of members of The Intima. ‘

Invocation is an energetic blast of innovation and fun, with songs running in unpredictable yet ever electrifying directions.
