We Are Ucho No Ko.. A hefty double discer which apparently (and sadly) marks the end of the excellent Afrirampo's recording career. Their trademark demented vocals (either solo or, more usually, in a very weird kind of harmony) are present and correct but my immediate impression is that this seems like a more rounded effort than their previous albums (which, admittedly, I've not listened to in quite a while so my memory may be playing tricks on me), relying less on the yelping and barking for its effect. A good thing, I'd say, and you can't say they haven't run with it given that they've served up a good couple of hours worth of super varied and never less than totally fun material. Melt Banana, Lightning Bolt, Ruins, Deerhoof, OOIOO.. If you like any of those you'll want to consider having a bash on this and if you like more than one of them you might want to think about getting on the case with some immediacy!
Renowned for their incredible and at times insane
live performances, ‘We Are Uchu No Ko’ represents
Afrirampo’s final release and their first for Rock
Action Records.
An entirely fitting finale for the band with their
signature distorted freeform pop melodies, primal
garage stomps and guttural barks in full effect.
For fans of Sonic Youth, Lightning Bolt, Melt
Banana.
Released through Mogwai’s Rock Action Records
label, ‘We Are Uchu No Ko’ is available on a special
