Dinosaur Pile Up - Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa by Dinosaur Pile Up

4...according to our on Thu 23 Sep, 2010.

Dinosaur Pile-Up have an easily recognisable sound. It's a sound imprinted in my mind from years of exposure to American rock bands throughout the 90s. They basically sound like the Foo Fighters with the occasional foray into Weezer territory. Now, that'd be a fucking outrageous crime if this Matt Bigland kid wasn't so good at writing in that style. I'm sure everyone gets the feeling every now and then that they we're born in the wrong century and I bet Bigland is fucking kicking himself!! Fifteen years too late and born on the wrong side of the Atlantic... I'd be gutted. Anyway, I like this single. I pretty much like most of the Dinosaur Pile-Up stuff. They use proper JCM 800 Marshall heads, play Firebird guitars and don't fuck about too much, what more do you want? I know what you want... B-side 'Headspinner' is a brooding Weezer-esque pop number that does what it should.

Following the success of ‘Birds And Planes’, Dinosaur
Pile-Up are set to release a brand new single - ‘Mona
Lisa' - digitally and as a vinyl 7” - backed by B-side
‘Headspinner’.

Vocalist / guitarist Matt Bigland says of the track
"Mona Lisa is about having no money, no time, living
on instant noodles, with no heating. I was sitting in
my room surrounded by crap and just thought 'Hey,
this is kind of like trying to paint my 'Mona Lisa”.

Video bonus fact 1: DPU made the bad guys’
costumes out of exercise balls and silver gaffa tape.

Fact 2: Matt's giant head took 1.2 kilometers of plastic
piping, 3,000 cable ties and a sh*t load of pink paper
to make.

Fact 3: The dead dude under the white sheet in the
doctors’ surgery is Matt's best friend, also called Matt.

The pair wrote and co-directed the video together.

Produced with longtime collaborator James Kenosha,
Dinosaur Pile-Up's debut album ‘Growing Pains’ will be
unleashed on the world the week after ‘Mona Lisa’ is
released and the band will set off on a full headline
tour shortly after that.
