Burial's been super quiet recently, hasn't he? I'd heard he was supposed to be doing a full remix of the last Massive Attack album but that seems to have faded into the ether. Massive Attack were pretty big shit in the 90s. So was Goldie. And this is on Metalheadz! There's a spurious connection for you. Anyway I've no idea what the original of this is like but it seems very safe to say that Burial's made it all his own, with those trademark ghostly vocal snatches fading in and out over a desolate ambient soundscape given movement by the occasional interjections of sparse, woodblocky percussion. It reminds me more of 'Fostercare', his contribution to the 5 Years of Hyperdub compilation than anything else, which is by no means a bad thing but it does suffer the same fate of failing to fully reach where you want him to take you, albeit only by a very small measure. Still class in a glass, mind.
LIMITED EDITION SAMPLER FROM FORTHCOMING COMMIX 'RE-CALL TO MIND' ALBUM. ONE SIDE HAS ALBUM ARTWORK ICON ETCHED ON IT. Burial's 'Untrue' LP is, as far as were concerned, the best electronic album of any genre in the last 10 or even 15 years. It’s dripping with understated euphoria and completely individual. We knew we wanted to have him involved and were over the moon when he accepted. The results speak for themselves really: a truly timeless piece of music.(words by Commix)
