Every Nigger Is A Star by Boris Gardiner

This curio is from a long forgotten film which was panned by the press. It was a massive flop and legend has it that it had the shortest (and most violent) run in Jamaican film history. Audiences were incensed and they rioted to get their money back. It had no storyline and it was more like a documentary on Rastafarianism - people wanted something big and beautiful and what they got was something else. By the third night the theatres were bereft of any audience and the film, and everything associated with it disappeared... Until now. It's a shame people don't take the same hard line of rioting when Hollywood bashes out another shit remake, or when ever Danny Dyer commits another "gritty" performance to celluloid but that's another matter. This album is actually fucking ace. Its funk-tinged reggae with sweet musicianship, and amazing songwriting. My favourite song at the moment is track 8, called "Rats In The Ghetto". It reminds me of my old house. This forgotten gem should be purchased by anyone with ears and a hankering for Blaxploitation. It pisses all over most modern day soundtracks. Buy it now....

We reach for the vinyl heavens again and catch a celestial delight - an exact repress of Boris Gardiners legendary "Every Nigger is a Star", the long-lost soundtrack to a near mythical Jamaican film!

Long a grail-status LP for reggae and funk aficionados alike, Gardiners OST for Calvin Lockharts mysterious movie has eluded any official or unofficial re-release since 1974. Presented in its original format and with its original cover art, Every Nigger is a Star is a dose of the finest conscious Jamaican music, generously laced with blaxploitation-style heavy funk. The Boris Gardiner Happening present a deep, cross-genre constellation of sounds that spans sweet reggae to soul balladry, and stretches from the magical carib-funk-jazz of "Negril", through the gold standard funk classic "Ghetto Funk", to the deep acoustic cut of the title track. An essential release for fans of funk, blaxploitation OSTs and reggae, the CD release also comes equipped with detailed historical notes which finally clear up the mystery of the original film. Another Deadly Sting from Jazzman Records - because we dig deeper!
