...according to our Dave on Fri 17 Sep, 2010.
Clinic have gone a bit Ashcroft. I don't mean they've started flouncing about on big carpets with no shoes on, or walking aggressively down a high street, or harping on about drugs not working. I mean they have started to sound disarmingly similar. Their new single walks a dainty walk down Radio Play Lane, and then stops off for a nice cup of Inoffensive Tea at the bandstand of Banal. Side B is a more interesting proposition. Its quite a powerful song driven along by rumbling bass and piercing squeals. They know how to write a good pop song, and they have made a grown man cry more times than you can recall, but this song sound too much like the Verve...
· First single to be taken from Clinic’s brand new
album ‘Bubblegum’, due later this year.
· Produced by Jon Congleton, who produced the
recent Bill Callahan album and St Vincent amongst
others.
· The single heralds a brand new style for the
band eschewing the jagged nervy garage rock
of before for a sound brimming with warmth &
emotion.
