Leaves Eclipse The Light by Eluvium

5...according to our on Thu 16 Sep, 2010.

This little peach is a 3 track CD single plus a video so that means you get 4 things for your cash instead of 3. And one of those things is a remix by Four Tet so that surely makes it 5 things? Well if you're a fan of Four Tet I guess it would. If you really didn't like him that I guess that would be 3 things and totally detract from the buying of this. That is unless you were an Eluvium fan, which you should be as he makes some of the most beautiful music that ears can listen to. Here Mr. Eluvium is singing over some lush cyclical sounding electronic rhythms and it's gorgeous. They're totally enveloping and for some reason they make me think of the tree spirits from Princess Mononoke. I think it's the clicking sounds and it has a kind of arboreal feel about the track. The Four Tet mix sounds very much in the vain of his recent 4/4 style output with some of Eluvium's twinkly piano etc in the background. A lovely EP!

Features sought-after and highly-publicized FOUR TET remix. Limited Edition of 2,000 copies. Following the release of the artistically daring and critically-acclaimed Similes earlier this year, we’re proud to present Leaves Eclipse The Light EP, a scarcely limited CDEP featuring the stunning opening track from Similes, plus two brand new exclusive tracks. “Leaves Eclipse The Light” is a gorgeous, laconic piece of ambient pop that Alternative Press called “breathtaking.” Following that is “A Life In Tides Less Current,” an 11-minute instrumental in which your mind is taken on the kind of self-reflective, nostalgic journey that made Eluvium’s Talk Amongst The Trees album the cherished treasure that it is. Closing this EP is the long-awaited and sought-after remix of “The Motion Makes Me Last” by Four Tet. When Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden snuck his remix into his live set for BBC earlier this year, it stirred a lot of interest, getting rebroadcast repeatedly on the BBC airwaves, as well as being co-opted into multiple fan-made viral videos on YouTube. This is the first-ever proper release of this remix. And finally, tucked away on the Enhanced CD portion of this EP is the visually arresting “The Motion Makes Me Last” video directed by acclaimed filmmaker Matt McCormick (The Shins, Some Days Are Better Than Others). Strictly limited to 2,000 copies and featuring an exquisite custom die-cut cover, we don’t expect these to stick around for very long, and will likely become sought-after in their own right. “Masterful.” SPIN  //  “So wonderful [that] it makes it so hard to believe that everything that might be wrong in your life actually matters at all.” Alternative Press
