Tennis - Baltimore

Baltimore by Tennis

3...according to our on Thu 11 Nov, 2010.

This is one of the 7"'s that I've been given that is flying off the shelves. It's rare with a record that contains vocals for no-one in the office to be sure at what speed it runs. 45 sounded too fast 33 sounded too sluggish. A quick check on Myspace (remember that?) reveals that the vocalist is indeed a lady with a very high voice. So 45 it is. I kind of preferred it at 33 but there you go. Its muddily recorded indie pop with drum machines and cheap Woolworths guitars. The melodies are ok but nothing startling. It kind of reminds me most of Beach House. It's very Beach House. Minus points for vocals resorting to going 'sha la la' on the second track. The B side continues the retro-ism with a 50's style romp. Catchy and bouncy but its more Tracy Ullman than Best Coast. Still anyone in love with the joys of honest to goodness indie pop (and there are a lot of you out there) will probably lap it up.

Underwater Peoples is proud to present a collection of three pop gems from Denver's Tennis. Tennis are Patrick and Alaina. They bought a boat together and sailed around the ocean. They dodged freighters, wade squalls, swam ashore in the bahamas, ate at restaurants with names like Spanky's and got married. With no destination in mind, the trip led them to write the songs heard on this 7..Dont be behind on this one, and dont just take our word on it either...
