Hunter Gatherer - Pere Lachaise / Undergrowth

Pere Lachaise / Undergrowth by Hunter Gatherer

'Witch house'? Fuck's sake. Well, whatever you call it this is cool stuff. Lead track 'Pere Lachaise' has got quite a classic low-mid tempo dubstep sort of a feel to it, only drenched to the skin with gothic atmosphere. In some respects there's not a huge amount to it but what it does it does pretty effectively and if you're receptive to its darkness it'll no doubt creep under your skin. 'Undergrowth' on the flip approaches the similar chilly territory in quite a different way, evoking friendlier spectres with its light, chimey melodies. I'll be intrigued to see where he'll take his sound in the future..

You have now entered the realm of the dark and mysterious ‘Hunter-Gatherer’. The masked electronic wunderkind and Witch House enthusiast, conjures up a haunting athmosphere of icy yet oddly uplifting melancholia. An emotional smorgasbord of chilling chord progressions and brooding programming that has found some secret kind of third place between home listening and the dance floor. Following in a long tradition of Hibernian gothic which touches on the works of fellow Dublin artists Bram Stoker and Sheridan Le Fanu, Hunter-Gatherer emerges into the light with a slab of vinyl holding two tracks of athmospheric gothronica. The beautiful and beguiling ‘Pere Lechaise’ that slowly entwines itself around your inner ear and the more relentless ‘Undergrowth” that beats a spiritual path to your door. Join hunter-Gatherer and his devoted army of masked fans (aka the HunGas) who follow him religiously to every gig. Hunter-Gatherer’s debut album ‘I Dreamed I was a footstep in the trail of a Murderer’ was one of the most critically acclaimed Irish releases of 2009.
