Get into the groove said some dodgy brain-warping catholic bird once. I bought all her records because of that, I really did want to get into her groove. I was only 11 years old, what a cradle snatcher she was. On a current tip, I'm currently getting into the groove of this cool Deepchord offshoot. First side has this epic live "dub" - a mid-tempo dub techno roller that strolls coolly along in a sublime head-nodding fashion. Loads of wild, trippy stuff zinging off into the cosmos whilst the strong rhythm pulses beautifully & hypnotically. This is perfect for my hangover but not as perfect as the enormous fish & chip feast Philthy Leigh has gone to fetch for me. The King Midas mix now begins on the flip & is a fucking monster. A fat, brooding low-end pins the tune down whilst this stunning astral scree ascends into the skies, Roger Robinson riding it majestically in a blissed spiritual fashion. It sounds a bit like A.R .Kane at their most powerful but 10 times more intense! This has gotta be the best thing i've heard them do & all that coming after their dynamite debut album! The closing Rafael Anton Irisarri mix (under his Sight Below alias) returns to mellower pastures - the subtle metronomic thud of classic dub-no mingled deliciously with his gliding tapestries of enveloping astral drift. Bloody fantastic record, this is a fine week for contemporary techno, make no mistake.
Echospace are proud to announce the third ep from the forthcoming cv313 album, "dimensional space". This release marks the first remix from one of the UK's most revered talents -- King Midas Sound (The Bug) who manages to take the original in a direction one would never expect, creeping and trembling right at the very core of your very being. This is truly the midst of something beautiful, it's haunting, infectious and has no restrictions to gravity, this is truly something to float in. Next we have a heady subliminal interpretive from Seattle's, Rafael Anton Irisarri as The Sight Below (Ghostly) there is a reason why his sound has even turned the head of Radiohead front man Thom Yorke and if I had to guess I would say it's Rafael's emotional range, he tug's right at the heart strings. This mix is as narcotic as you would expect, a slow motion dream where in every twist and turn a new detail unfolds, it's like visiting an unexplored world -- subtle and hypnotic. On the B side we have a more 4/4 number culled from Deepchord presents: Echospace (Modern Love) live set from this past year. This one has been tried and tested at countless shows and club floors around the world. It's all about that syncopated bassline, a subterranean bottom and an atmosphere as deep as the ocean floor -- this is underwater space funk.
