Italic Indian - Drowsy Bruise

Drowsy Bruise by Italic Indian

This is quite a weird one... I guess someone like Black Dice might be a reasonable reference point for its bubbly, gurgly, effect-drenched broth but it's also got that sort of ultra lo-fi underwater sort of sound going on that seems quite popular with the current round of underground/noise/hypnagogic types. The first tune's making me think of some sort of long-dormant cyborg octopus testing out its vocal chords after waking deep in the ocean's depths. After that things get a little more beat-driven, but it's always an obscured, off-kilter sort of beat that disorientates rather than grooves... Chuck the occasional mongy vocals in the mix and you're liable to start feeling a bit unsteady on your feet. I've just skimmed the second side and it sounds even more abstract and odd than the first.

Glurgly beats and contorted everythings. A taut manifestation of that perfect balance between something and nothing, with reverb. Heavy live sampling, unafraid manipulation, locked groove swirls of color, and a solid grasp on how to do exactly this. Like the soundtrack to a Jurassic Park with less death. 12″ LP with eye-poppin labels in a disco sleeve with a wraparound poster-sized collage. Limited to 250
