Right, i've taken up the baton from Business Lady. She's chipped a fingernail & is currently recuperating in the (Business) Ladies room, distressed at this awful cosmetic damage she's inflicted to her digit. So after meeting the man the other night (Matt Mondanile) and finding him to be a proper nice character, I'm in the fortunate position of reviewing this fine (delayed) split. I've really enjoyed a few of his lo-fi tropical pop gems to date, he knows how to spin out a sweet tune. This beast on here is quite untypical of that though. It's (gasp) possibly the best thing he's done for these ears. A long, winding cosmic odyssey with mesmerising kosmische undertones and a relentless skittery drum machine that sounds like summat off 'Surfing on Sine Waves' by Polygon Window. Anyone who digs that raw AFX classic should love the vibe of this sprawling epic. Also one for Emeralds fans I reckon. So no lyrics, this is a trippy head massaging jam that is right up my alley. A few words about the curiously monikered Italian on the other side. His work is what i'd call "Clangers drone". It sounds well otherwordly & ghostly. He introduces some strange warped sounds into the equation before the last quarter of the tune where we're dropped into a noise-infested jungle, now resembling a nightmare of digitised tropical birds and drunken alien frequencies.
There is a murder in the beach. Ducktails arrives in his spaceship escalade to investigate the scene. Dracula Lewis is the principal suspect. They become best friends and decide to work on a split LP. When a vampire kills a body is never found. At the same time beautiful and terrifying cavern drone sounds from Dracula Lewis, Psychedelic spiraling melodies and electronics beats from Ducktails. Both investigate the limits of the space time continuum. This is the new dawn of expansive music. Ducktails is Matthew Mondanile (Also a member of Real State.) Dracula Lewis was born in Transylvania but currently lives in the country side of Italy, were the locals refer to him as 'A Gypsy.' Limited to 500 copies.
