I love these dudes for the stuff they've done down the years. I've bummed seeing Nick Cave live, worn out my copy of Your Funeral.. My Trial and cried real tears to 'The Ship Song' several more times than once. I've listened to Ocean Songs and Horse Stories more times than I'd care to admit. But Grinderman I've always found a bit embarrassing. I thought when the whole endeavor was announced that the name would end up going down as easily the worst part but then came 'No Pussy Blues'.. And the rest. The first single for this I thought was pretty awful, Fripp or no Fripp. So yeah, here's the album and despite it all, I'm kind of enjoying it. I'm sure I should know better - and everyone involved in the making of it DEFINITELY should - but if I allow my ears to squint a wee bit, rendering the the ooh-shocking misogyny and unpleasant whiff of middle-aged desperation just that little bit blurrier I can almost feel myself starting to get into it. Just a little bit, mind! And the drawings inside the package are totally ace, which is obviously the most important thing.
