Now this is a nice surprise, haven't heard much from this fella in a while.. After a string of fantastic 12"s I've got to admit that I was pretty disappointed with the album but this one shows he's definitely still got the knack for singles which totally hit the spot and slickly defy easy categorisation. There's more electro in the addictively skittering beat here than in anything I can remember him doing in the past but the none-more-simple bassline still hits hard and low in a dubstep stylee (actually reminding me a little of Leftfield's 'Phat Planet' in the way it builds) and there are still those hints of techno and jungle that you'll immediately recognise as hallmarks of his style. The flip is far more rhythmically complex than you'd probably expect from him and it's had Ant busting out the Surgeon comparison which I can definitely hear. A very welcome return!
The only J word we use is Jungle. Percussion, polyrhythm, the interaction of bass and drums, the essence of dance music, the unmistakeable UK flavour. Riddim tracks, dj tracks, dance music. Soundsystem music, Dub music. Unmistakeably Peverelist. Cut LOUD for DJs. Peverelist is the lynchpin of the Bristol dubstep music scene. His championing of home grown talent has made his label, Punch Drunk Records, perhaps the defining contemporary label of one of the world’s most influential musical cities. His own productions have been hugely influential in shaping the second wave dubstep sound, drawing influences from UK & JA sound system culture and European & American House and Techno. His releases include genre defining classics on Skull Disco, Tectonic and Punch Drunk, culminating in the ‘Jarvik Mindstate’ album of late 2009,

Peverelist productions and dj sets are renowned for uncompromising, challenging, forward thinking innovation and militant underground aesthetics, unusual in the increasingly homogenous and ‘rave’ orientated dubstep over ground. He learnt his trade and furthered his passionate grass roots approach during a decade working in the UK underground frontline of inner city Bristol’s influential and last remaining independent record shop, Rooted Records, Peverelist is a resident at Bristol’s definitive and original dubstep club night Subloaded.
