Wilder - Girls Vs Boys

Girls Vs Boys by Wilder

1...according to our on Thu 22 Jul, 2010.

If these chipmunks were as good as Gene Wilder I would probably say words like "sliced bread" and "best thing since". Unfortunately they are more like "Van Wilder-Party Liason". It's well cutting edge using that 16 beats disco drum beat isn't it. That coupled with a sort of shouty "Camden Tawwhnn" vocal line puts me in a funny mood. In fact I like aspects of "Van Wilder-Party Liason". Ryan Reynolds is a bit like a young Chevy Chase. These chancers are more like a young Dennis Waterman. It will probably end up on the "Skins" soundtrack... if not then you'll be picking this out of the "Where Are They Now File"

Limited edition first single from new Rough Trade signing Wilder.

· Produced by Wilder with David St John, ‘Girls Vs
Boys’ captures the frenetic rush of guitars and analogue
electronics that have become the trademark of this young
Bristol fourpiece.

· Taking a lead from Faggott Fairys, Gossip and the
narrative songs of Arctic Monkeys, Wilder warp it with
the digital squirm of Boy 8 Bit, the old-time-new-wave
white boy jerk of Talking Heads, the teutonic groove of
Neu!, Captain Beefheart, The Velvet Underground,
David Bowie’s ear for a melody and the foxy art-school
cunning of Roxy Music.

· Wilder signed with Rough Trade Records in December
2009 and immediately celebrated by going on tour with
Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas. They’ve already
done their first Radio 1 session for Huw Stephens,
graced the Radar pages of the NME and are currently
putting the finishing touches to their debut collection of
tracks, set for release early in 2011.

· Available on limited edition 7” vinyl (300 copies).
