Can't say that I remember what this album was like originally but they've managed to rope in a pretty impressive set of remixers to muck about with it. It kicks off with The Hundred in the Hands whose mix sounds pretty much like themselves (ie a fairly bland and inoffensive take on electropop) and from there you get the likes of The Field (who goes a bit more Pop Ambient with it than I expected from him, his obscured beats actually sounding a little reminiscent of Gas), High Places (who do a sort of psychedelic tropical dub-pop job on it, as is their wont) and Justin K. Broadrick (whose mix I probably like the most, although I guess fans of his might be after something a little more intense). Quite an airy, enjoyable collection in all and one that's suiting the sunshine that's currently blazing (no doubt briefly given the summer around here so far) out the window..
“We don’t write songs in a day, or even a week,”
says Bear In Heaven bassist/guitarist Adam Wills.
“Most of them take months.”
Well that explains a couple things, starting with the
simple fact that Bear In Heaven’s breakthrough
moments—Grizzly Bear’s blog-baiting endorsement
of “Lovesick Teenagers,” sold out shows across
their first UK tour, love from Huw Stephens, Steve
Lamacq and Zane Lowe, and the “ Best New Music”
stamp Pitchfork plastered across the Brooklyn
band’s second album, Beast Rest Forth Mouth—
didn’t happen overnight. The long gestation period
is stamped all through the music, with Uncut
recognising they are a band "who've slowly crafted
avant-garde influences in this hugely impressive
prog pop."
And the next step in that process? On the record
shop side of things, Bear In Heaven will release a
UK-exclusive
standalone Beast
Mouth remix album on August 23. This band-
curated, ten-track companion to their critically-
acclaimed full length will feature The Field, High
Places, Studio, Justin K. Broadrick (a.k.a. Jesu,
Godflesh), and many more. The cherry on top: Bear
In Heaven will return for a UK tour this August, with
festival and club dates coinciding with this special
UK remix album release.
If you love something, set it free. Bear In Heaven, hot off their first European tour in support of their acclaimed
full-length "Beast Rest Forth Mouth," have curated a remix album worthy of both headphones and dance floors.
With a roll call featuring the likes of The Field, Justin K. Broadrick (a.k.a. Jesu), Studio, and High Places, this UK-
exclusive standalone album will be released (with suitably "remixed" artwork) on August 23rd through Hometapes
& Dreamboat records.
