From reading about these London upstarts, I don't think they like Mods much. They seem to be hell-bent on launching a vitriolic campaign of pure hatred against the Mod community! Which is strange because A) I wasn't aware the Mods still existed, 2) I'm pretty sure loads of people hate Paul Weller so no need to cry about it! and C) These guys are well total Mods - maybe familiarity breeds contempt? I reckon one of these "punks" got blown out by a Camden Dolly Bird and can't quite get over it. I'm pretty sure Mr. Weller will be shaking like a shitting dog in one of his many gold houses now this band are on his case. I'd hate to be a mod right now. The music's not too bad though - its actually quite dirty and saturated in the phlegm of a thousand punks, crying out in desolation. It's fast and furious, and has all the anger of 12 Hedgehogs in a paper bag. Not a bad single for the Best Mod band I've heard in Ages...OOOHHH!!!

Furious, surreal and uncompromising, FLATS - from east London - have come up with wildly important, totally unsanitised debut single. Harnessing unexpected influences - Crass, Ikons, Chronic Gen - to singer Dan Devine's psychotic anger, FLATS are thrilling, unnerving and vital.
Although they've only existed for four months, their demos have been circulating among such rock royalty names as Kevin Shields, Bobby Gillespie and Jamie Reynolds - and one of their early, unmissable live shows was at The Horrors' Cave Club. This is a band who grab people's attentions. And it's not just other musicians, FLATS have already been feted by Vice and NME. NME named them as the 15th Most Fearless Act in music and gave them a lead live review describing them as "sublimely awkward." There is much more press still to run.
