Here's a new thing on John Dwyer (Oh Sees/Coachwhips) funtastic label by Bare Wires. They seem to have different logos on each release on the label. I like the one of the guy with a massive castle for a face. Genius. The cover features 'em hanging outside some amazing looking pink wooden doughnut cafe looking all rockstar-ish. Anyway they do the whole 70's garage punk rock pop thing. There's a fair wedge of bands like The Kinks and The Flamin' Groovies kicking about in there and the band seem to happily wear their influences on their sleeves which isn't always a bad thing. Also I get the vibe they're super enjoying making their music which is nice. It's well rawk.... But all I can think of is pink doughnuts now.
We loved teh debut album on Tic Tac Totally, and now for a new album, on Castle Face (John Dwyer /Oh Sees' Label). Amplifying the pared down smooth punk of their 2009 debut LP Artificial Clouds, BARE WIRES nods to the bubblegum chomping, power popstompers of 70s glam rock with their sophomore album Seeking Love. What started as the side project of MATTHEW MELTON and ALICJATROUT in Memphis has now solidified as a three-piece based out of Oakland, CA with Melton, drummer NATHAN PRICE and bassistFLETCHER JOHNSON. Released on BRIAN LEE HUGHES & JOHN DWYER s (THEE OH SEES) Castle Face imprint, the ten songs on SeekingLove boast handclap heavy, stadium-ready production reminiscent of early 70s glam rockers Gary Glitter and Slade, while still speaking to thesincerity and authenticity that has become Melton s songwriting trademark.
