I'd not heard any recordings of seminal weirdo proggy folky oddballs Comus since they started playing again so the recording here came as a bit of a surprise to me.. Usually when a band returns so many years later they'll have grown stale and conservative but in this case the opposite seems to be true, as this recent recording of 'Diana' (first heard on the classic 'First Utterance') and its demented tangle of voices and guitars is, if anything, quite a lot weirder than the original.. Which was already pretty weird in the first place. Wish I'd been there to see it! Rameses III's warm ambient droneyness isn't really the stuff that classic 7"s are made of but 'Like The Stars (Micro-Ending)' goes down nicely, as does Simon Finn's 'Polar Veil' which has pretty much stopped me in my tracks with its slightly psych-tinged folk beauty. Gonna have to go and look into some of his stuff I reckon..
Limited edition purple 7" vinyl EP: Featuring a track each from Comus, Simon Finn (who designed the cover), and Rameses III, issued to mark the event of the Current 93 25th Anniversary and David Tibet's 50th Birthday event at The HMV Forum in Kentish Town, London on 29th May 2010.
