I thought this record might be drone/ambient tomfoolery. I thought it might hurt my ears. " ...Yeah its great man, it sounds like Liam Neeson chasing chickens round the inside of a barrel on a Wednesday...." Ace, what do they actually sound like? "...Well...erm they got Liam Neeson to run around the inside of a barrel and put contact mics on him, and added some industrial drone behind it..." Oh fuck off. Dunes thankfully do not sound like that .They have a sound that is reminiscent of early Pocahaunted in its mantra like singing style, and a reverb unit that would make The Jesus & Mary Chain weep into there salads. They sound otherwordly and maybe even (Bill) cosmic (Cosby). Sort of like being on a haunted house ride with no pants on. Breezy and quite scary. A solid psyched out offering that stays with you long after listening.

Debut EP by this mysterious Los Angeles trio, who bend the timeless, ornate darkness of Siouxsie, the Cocteau Twins, and Strawberry Switchblade into new and forlorn forms. Seven songs of teenage anxiety, that avert their eyes when they catch you staring; destined for a permanent spot in mixtapes for the foreseeable future. The charms of Dunes may not find you all at once, but instead choose to surround you, until their music is all you can think about.
