Autechre - Move Of Ten

This came as quite a surprise... Having not released anything for a while the Oversteps record arrived and I was sort of expecting silence for a while, certainly not what is basically another albums worth of material on CD and two different 12"s. It's a fine selection and a reasonably varied set of tracks that begins with an opener that straddles the abstract with more immediately accessible suggestions of melody. Then for the greater part of the album things are all fairly easy on the ear in terms of what these guys are capable of. There's bits of acid, some straight up 4/4 tune with warped melody that reminds me a little of Urban Tribe. Some booming electro/ squashed hip hop beats, gnarly synths and monged out atmospherics. Generally speaking things feel almost more linear than we're used to from Autechre, as opposed to hyper complex Max MSP action. Also the Elektron Machinedrum appears to play a significant role. There are also a few moments that feel like bookends from 'Oversteps' with a similar sort of elegaic quality. All in all a superb package as the 12"s also come with download codes.
