Our album of the week (18th June 2010)
...according to our Brian on Fri 18 Jun, 2010.
Another one of those lovingly crafted sets, this one as you can see is canary yellow which brightens up our drab office delightfully, yet has the knock-on effect of making Business Lady feel rather queasy. The erstwhile Berlin Based composer & pianist here locks horns with jazzy abstract sound tinkerer Blumm to challenging effect. This collaboration is pretty gorgeous in places, blending pinking electronics, soft clouds of drifting dissonance, minimalist piano flourishes, bursts of languid brass, cheeky snatches of woodwind, tentative acoustic guitar figures and some sleepy meandering avant-gardisms which make this a less penetrable but intrinsically fascinating body of work that may well raise a few eyebrows. I'm thinking this is a bit of an organically sublime, yet abstract treasure trove of aural discovery though -a less immediate adventure than previous label outings, but to me that means there's a denser, more exciting soundworld to explore.
