Factory Floor - Remix Series: Volume 1 (STEPHEN MORRIS Remix)

Remix Series: Volume 1 (STEPHEN MORRIS Remix) by Factory Floor

Two 12"'s reviewed together for your convenience. First of all trying to get myself to grips with what they do. Its kind of like A Certain Ratio playing Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' without having heard any music but The Normal. Its very original sounding sparse electronics, slashing guitars and moaning vocals. On one 12" you get the original of 'Lying' and a remix of 'Wooden Box'. On the other 12" you get the original of 'Wooden Box' and a remix of 'Lying'. I'm so confused my brain is lying in a puddle on the floor. First up Stephen Morris (Bad Lieutenant....oh and New Order) has a go at improving it and doesn't really but has some fun along the way with vocodered vocals and housey beats. Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle) does a great job of bringing 'Lying' out of its murk. Its not a re-interpretation as such just a great mix. Recommended (both of em).

Ltd to 1000 copies only. Hot on the heels of their well received (NME 9 out of 10) ten inch MLP four track + dvd package, Factory Floor release the first in their series of limited edition 12” remixes : A Side A WOODEN BOX – STEPHEN MORRIS / B Side LYING – FACTORY FLOOR ORIGINAL MIX.  (A) Stephen Morris, drummer and rhythm programmer for music legends Joy Division & New Order brings his unique, bleak northern soullfulness  to Factory Floor’s fierce debut. Stephen’s an FF fan, he’s already been to three live shows and is now Producer for the band’s next round of recordings.  (B) Journalists have been much taken by FF’s feral and forceful live sound, while DJ’s complained to us that with so much music on each side of 10” they wanted louder-than-god cut of the their new death disco fave “ Lying”. So we are happy to oblige. The NME promise a 2 page feature on Factory Floor to be published around this release.
