Wolf Parade - EXPO 86

EXPO 86 by Wolf Parade

4...according to our on Thu 01 Jul, 2010.

Don't know much about Montreal's Wolf Parade so I can't tell you if it's true that the original members of the band met at the Vancouver World Fair in 1986 and vowed to start a band later in life? Could be true? Who knows. Expo 86 is Wolf Parade's third LP and was recorded at Hotel2Tango by Howard Bilerman (who recorded Godspeed! You Black Emperor and the like). Hard band to pin down in a short preview but I'm getting an Interpol vibe from the vocalist and a semi American goth-pop sensibility from there arrangements. In parts it sounds like well played, well executed indie-rock but there are hints of all sorts of things that eventually bring me back to the thinking that these guys could be big indie rock giants if only they had a real, proper hit in there. Everything else is bang on though; the grand musical gestures, the big production sound and a powerful, dynamic vocalist. Great sleeve though.

Recorded and mixed at Hotel2Tango with Howard Bilerman in late February / early March of 2010, ‘Expo 86’ is the name of the new third album by Montreal’s Wolf Parade.

• ‘Expo 86’: It’s the name of Wolf Parade’s third album, and it’s the catchy name of the World’s Fair held in Vancouver, summer of 1986, where five young boys first became friends just outside the Cars Of The Future exhibit and made a secret pact to meet up in the early 2000s to form a rock band.
