Don't make the same mistake as me - this is a lady has absolutely nothing to do with Olafur Arnalds as far as I can tell. What she does have something to do with is being chums with Sigur Ros, playing a fine bit of folky guitar and having quite a gorgeous voice, one which is really difficult not to compare with Kate Bush. The A-side here (sung in Icelandic) is an intimate showcase for for the latter two of those things but I can't vouch for the first - members of Sigur Ros have apparently produced some of her tracks but I'm not sure if they're involved here. The B-side is a tasteful cover of Arthur Russell's beautiful 'Close My Eyes' and she definitely does it justice with her very nicely understated performance.
Hailing from Reykjavik, One Little Indian’s new signing Ólöf Arnalds releases her new album ‘Innundir Skinni’.
• Sounding every bit as striking as she is beautiful, Ólöf Arnalds already has a strong Stateside buzz following NYC shows with Bjork and Dirty Projectors, Blonde Redhead and John Vanderslice.
• With songs sung in both Icelandic and English, the nine songs here (produced by Sigur Ros’ Kjartan Sveinsson with Davíð Þór Jónsson) showcase a unique and divergent talent.
• Beautiful, beguiling and poised to win a huge British following in the coming months, the first of Ólöf Arnalds hotly anticipated new material is aired with the release of the title track of her forthcoming second album, new single ‘Innundir Skinni’, released through One Little Indian and backed with a cover of Arthur Russell’s ‘Close My Eyes’.
• The new album features contributions from Bjork, Skúli Sverrisson, Shahzad Ismaily, María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir and Ragnar Kjartansson. It also marks a departure by including three English sung songs, including single to be, ‘Crazy Car’. Arnald’s lilting voice makes her songs come alive, leaving the impression of a classic troubadour with associations to early freak-folkers like Vashti Bunyan and Judee Sill.
• "You may well fall in love" - NME, "Reykjavik's answer to Kate Bush" - 4* Mojo, “Leaves a brilliantly deep impression” - 4* Metro.
