Sadhills is Milieu's latest offering to the world (or our world at least...) and it's a beaut. 50 copies of this baby which contains some more moody & clanky (he says "angular") tracks to contrast with those from the Bell'n Dither sessions as well as some delicious excursions into the melodic ambient techno he does so well. For such a prolific producer it always amazes me that even his albums of off cuts are bursting with tasty tracks of forward thinking electronica and he never forgets to shoehorn a pretty tune or glacial hook amongst the sonic debris, glitch & experimentation that he likes to explore. Some nice beats on here, I wouldn't have had this pegged as a Grainger release as there's less fluffiness & more meat than I normally hear!
Closely following up April's release of Bell'n Dither is an album called Sadhills. Sadhills compiles and collects several other tracks from the Bell'n Dither recording sessions that did not make the album cut, for various reasons. The concensus here at Milieu Music seems to be that these songs were much more angular in their drum programming, and catered to different moods than those on the album. What it all adds up to is a solid album of melancholic Milieu-melodies over super intricate drumlines, with emphasis on texture and crisp, clean production. Limited to 50 copies!
