Rob The Rich - Better

Better by Rob The Rich

It's not often that bands do a decent job of describing themselves.. Many a time you'll hear a band talking up their esoteric influences only to find that the result's yet another cookie-cutter indie rock band. I've got to say that these lads have made a fair stab at it with their Born Ruffians reference and the fact that they've toured with Jack Penate should also give you an idea but I'll chuck a bit of Vampire Weekend in there since they've got a bit of that tropical indie sort of feel to them. There's a weird bit at the end where what sounds like a mentally distorted steel drum kicks in.. Business Lady reckons she's identified it as the 'orchestral hit' sound found on many a cheapo keyboard. I've done a pretty good job of not really talking about this, haven't I?

In the true maverick spirit of being modern young men with modern young fringes and fresh open minds ROB THE RICH say they are influenced by what they are currently listening to, which happens to be Rihanna, Beyonce, Yeasayer, Arcade Fire and Phoenix. More specifically ROB THE RICH say, "We think Born Ruffians and Beirut are really good and like to think we have a wee bit of both in our quietly aggressive tropical pop music."
Wise words indeed. And it is this very tropical pop music which has seen ROB THE RICH nab support slots with Jack Penate, Pete & The Pirates,
Everything Everything and other such fragrantly inventive spirits. It has also seen them feature on the music to the online drama 'Freaks' and
soundtrack the televisual teenage kicks on 'Skins', as well has hoover up dainty droplets of radiophonic acclaim from the likes of Tom Robinson and
Steve Lamacq. Even better still, ROB THE RICH hereby join the quietly esteemed Label Fandango singles club family, previous home to nascent turns by Broken Records, Fanfarlo, Daggers (aka Hurts) and Air Traffic. While we remember those tunes from days gone by ROB THE RICH will most certainly not
be fleecing the kids here, here and here...
