Shit, these guys have absolutely no right to be anywhere near as blazin' as this at their age. Mani Neumeier (drummer extraordinaire and all-round backbone of Krautrock legends Guru Guru), Ax Genrich (also a Guru Guru member during their most fertile early-70s period) and Guy Segers (formerly of immense Belgian chamber-prog tykes Univers Zero) all sound as vital as ever on these intense jams, mixing up their prog/psych/avant garde influences into a sonic maelstrom of epic, heavy grooves and wailing, spacey guitar which puts most of Acid Mothers' recent output to shame for my money. Pipe it into your ears and blast off to a better place!
The musicians: Mani Neumeier (drums) - founder and head of the legendary Krautrock combo Guru Guru, still one of Germany's finest drummers today. Ax Genrich (guitar) - Guru Guru member from 1970 to 1975, Guy Segers (bass), pivotal figure in the Belgian avant-garde rock scene.

Available as CD and 180g vinyl Mani Neumeier has always relished working with the most diverse of musicians. That was the case in Guru Guru days, and is very much the same today. For his latest project, GURU-MANIAX, he teamed up with his old colleague Ax Genrich (Guru Guru guitarist from 1970-75, their legendary period, as it were) and the bass player Guy Segers (doyen of Belgian avant-garde rock, founder of the key band Univers Zero). So: expe-rience, virtuosity and professionalism to the power of three.
Four days in the studio, three at the mixing desk and the psychedelic diamond was finished! Some song fragments already existed, but most were spontaneous creations of the triumvirate in the studio. Recalling classic Guru Guru highlights such as "Ufo" (1970), "Hinten" (1971) and "KänGuru"
(1972), the trio launched themselves freely into improvisation, channel-led through their psychedelic / progressive /avant-garde rock terrain of choice - others call it Krautrock. There is even a direct reference to their second LP: the track "Spaceship Memory" is, as the name suggests, a musical descendant of "Spaceship" from the year 1971.
And just in case you missed it: the project name is the sum of its members' names: Guru+Mani+Ax. Which is a nice coinci-dence, as it turns out...
