Oh yeah I've been eagerly awaiting this one! Sherard Ingram is back with his uptempo hi-tech funk and it is pure joy to my ears. 'Micro Manager' sets the pace with big uplifting Detroit synths, solid beats and hypnotic bassline. I love the way it sorta sounds too fast at first, but once you re-adjust your mind into the tempo, it is pure techno soul. 'Apathy' is a stomper, again with a super fat bassline and big fizzing synth. As the track builds it gets really deep with lush pads and some mental electric dolphin sounds. 'Insolitology' is simply breathtaking with its timeless melody sending shivers right across my body. A real end of the party hands in the air tune and possibly future classic! The last track is really the icing on the cake. Essential for all fans of Detroit techno.
Nobody really sounds quite like S. Ingram, aka Urban Tribe, a talent that has moved through various shapes and forms in the Detroit underground with a constant thread of hi-tek electro soul holding all his material together. Urban Tribe is one of the second wave artists from Detroit who is known for his collaborations with Carl Craig, Anthony Shake Shakir and Moodymann. Ingram has been at the forefront of Detroit's musical history, with his seminal 'Covert Action' on Retroactive regularly pulled up as a Motor City classic. Throughout his recording career Urban Tribe has managed to remain one of the most uncompromising and mysterious producers, who has consistently avoided the mainstream to create a musical world of his own. In recent years he has been best known for his spinning moniker DJ Stingray, representing his brand of hi-speed and frantic electro in a ski-mask. Reputedly the first Detroit DJ to play electro trax at 45 instead of 33 to club crowds, his skills as DJ Stingray are held in high regard within the 313 district and beyond for creating a unique hyperactive funk. ‘Loyal Opposition’ is a four-track representation of all forward thinking from Urban Tribe and successfully retains all the qualities he is best known for, presenting material that is his strongest to date.
