Now this is absolutely gorgeous. Not usually the thing i'd expect from the normally (relatively) oppressive & darkened waters of Lake Utech! Singapore's Vivian Wang & Leslie Low are members of spacerockers The Observatory. Here they've combined their supreme talents to recount spectral memories of a wild mythological theme park they encountered as kids. So you can imagine this CD is quite a stunning blend of otherworldly, spiritual folk, eerie hypnagogic atmospherics and washes of neo-classical structure 'n' ambient fauna. A beautiful, dream-like experience tinged with a wee bit of psychedelia and a little dark magick, recounted in eight parts that all take you to many delightful realms. There is some stunning musicianship on this CD, my big, big surprise of the week. Sublime & evocative stuff indeed. DO NOT MISS THIS, I implore you!!
This is our heaven, a heaven we can see.
But we¹ve turned our heaven into hell.
Who¹s responsible?
We selfish human beings...
I don¹t want to offend any party, but if we were to talk candidly, we can
clearly see...
The poisons polluting our earth are very strong.
Viruses and illnesses, they¹re getting stronger and more concentrated.
Why?
Because we are the devils.
Who is the devil? Are there really devils?
WE are all devils.
God?
WE are also gods.
Vivian Wang and Leslie Low, both of The Observatory, recount childhood memories of mythological fantasy theme park called Haw Par Villa. First called Tiger Balm Garden, the odd but colorful attraction contained a strange mix of characters and familiar tales from Chinese mythology and folklore, mixed in with earthy depictions of modern life and the Chinese concept of hell. The mutual love and dread of the park is told over eight recordings. Voice, guitar, percussion and other traditional instrumentation weave a cloth of surreal bliss, eeriness and horror. Edition of 500.
