(I've Got) Privilege / Detroit Music by Chain & the Gang

5...according to our on Fri 18 Jun, 2010.

I like these guys. I've heard a lot of good things about 'em. I'm "au fait" with singer/mouthpiece Ian Svenonius's work... In the sense that I've listened to and proper bummed his previous musical offerings. Now Mr Svenonius enters the fold with his new band and I have to say it sounds ace. It seeps cool from every pore. It made me want to mooch about pointing and clicking at passers-by... But I'm indoors so that's not gonna happen. It's impossible not to be drawn into its suave, wiry spiderweb. Both tracks on this 7" are totally great. They have quite a raw feel but this more than compliments the drawl/yelp of Svenonius. The cover's ace... It's Ian Svenonius looking well deboniar on some docks. I think it looks a bit Howards Way but what you gonna do? It's a tasty repast served with the coolest of waters and a side order of glamour..

Have you heard? Grandma's doing the bird to the latest rock-breaking teen sensation, the wig-flipping Chain & the Gang. "(I've Got) Privilege” is the latest volume in our International Pop Underground series of 7” 45 rpm records. Young and old alike love the beat, the cranked riffs, just the overall vibe! You may, too, as soon as this package slides under your door. Ian Svenonius and chums have really come up with a winner of a dance task master, a real double-A side plate. Chain (o.k., Ian) croons on the first side; espousing the joys of being part of the privileged class. Then he gets real confused about the relationship between cars and music (isn’t it obvious?) on "Detroit Music ." "(I've Got) Privilege” was recorded by Calvin Johnson at Dub Narcotic Studio here in Olympia, Wash. Breaking all the chains, in the best possible way. “Ian Svenonius is the jam. If you don’t believe me, go ask someone’s older brother. Then you won’t be surprised when everyone is making spooky jailhouse doo-wop in four years. You see, the way this crazy game works is, first Svenonius is in an awesome band, then a few years later, way too many bands try to be that band. It’s been happening for years and it ain’t gonna stop now.” Tokion Magazine
