Plantagenet 3 - Plantagenet 3

Plantagenet 3 by Plantagenet 3

Blimey, someone's got their baritone guitar out for the lads. And if it's not a baritone then it should be as they're using it to make a kind of instrumental Morricone/post-rock hybrid somewhat in a Labradford vein but a fair bit more overtly riffy and hook-oriented.. I mean it's not Man... Or Astro Man? or anything but it's not done in a po-faced kinda way. It's good but to be honest it's the sort of thing that'd seem to suit a more long form format (longformat?) than the humble 45rpm 7" single. Then again the A-side sounds weirdly fine at 33rpm too due to the very minimal drum work so it's one of those happy 50% extra free type efforts if you feel like messing around with it.

"Post-surf" is a pretty ridiculous name for a genre, but seems like
the best way of describing the sound of Plantagenet 3. A lo-fi
instrumental trio from London, they aim to combine the twangy
tunefulness of early-60 surf, spy and Spaghetti Western themes with the more ambitious musical structures of recent post-rock. The result is something like the instrumental experiments of psych-influenced bands such as Clinic or Flaming Lips, but more stripped-down.

This self-titled record is Plantagenet 3's debut release, on 7" vinyl
with access codes for downloading digital audio and guitar tab. It has already received radio play from Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, and goes onsale on Monday 14th June.

This is a wonderful 7'', really classic, clever and well produced. Here are my two cents about it
