Horse Feathers - Thistled Spring

Thistled Spring by Horse Feathers

4...according to our on Thu 10 Jun, 2010.

'Thistled Spring', the third Horse Feathers LP, sees chief singer/songwriter Justin Ringle further exploring the world of minimalist Americana with the help of current touring violinist Nathan Crockett, cellist Catherine Odell and multi-instrumentalist Sam Cooper. Ringle's previous outings have solidified his reputation for crafting beautiful laments sung with heartfelt conviction of which there's plenty of on 'Thistled Springs'. The tastefully executed string arrangements give these songs an optimistic, summery feel that prevents them from being to downbeat yet the overall feel is still pretty melancholic, albeit in the best possible way. Ringle's vocal is rich, affecting and a total delight to hear. Top quality Americana.

The band have found a new level of confidence, sounding more textured and lush on this their third LP, whilst also capturing the skilful interplay of the bands current touring line-up.

· Horse Feathers third album displays a rich
progression, more textured and lush than
previous albums, it also captures the skilful
interplay of the bands current touring line-up of
Justin Ringle (on vocals and guitar), violinist
Nathan Crockett, cellist Catherine Odell,
and multi-instrumentalist Sam Cooper.

· Lyrically, Ringle continues to explore broken
relationships, longing and pain, but this album
has an undercurrent of heat that translates to a
thawing of frozen hearts, and music which
rushes like spring torrents, all of which points
to a resurgence of life after a hard winter.
