I was tempted to go see these folks at Primavera and i'm kinda regretting now as this is a great sounding LP. The follow up to last years self-titled LP on Western Vinyl, 'Pigeons' is the sound of a fully evolved group gaining a ton of momentum. Whereas their last LP was based primarily on the four track recordings of lead man Luke Temple, 'Pigeons' presents a tight touring group who are all making creative contributions to the mix. The result is a upbeat blend of indie pop with the rhythmic momentum of krautrock staples like Neu and Can etc. As a result they kinda remind me of early Stereolab with a little added kookiness. Propulsive drum rhythms, light synth-tones and a harmonious vocal delivery make for excellent summer listening. The holiday nostalgia is kicking in already...
• Here We Go Magic originally came together in New York in early 2009, through a series of chance encounters, overheard conversations and supernatural occurrences.
• From disparate musical backgrounds, the five found immediate common inspiration in a collection of unique 4-track recordings created by lead singer Luke Temple. These recordings were released in 2009 as the self-titled ‘Here We Go Magic’ (Western Vinyl).
• Since this initial spark, the band’s creative momentum has been unwavering. Together they have developed a broad array of musical material and honed an explosive live sound all their own.
• They spent much of 2009 on successive North American and European tours with bands such Department Of Eagles, Grizzly Bear and The Walkmen, before retreating to a house near East Branch, NY to record this, their second full length album.
• ‘Pigeons’ was produced and recorded by Here We Go Magic over four months in the late Summer and Fall of 2009. The band are planning extensive touring in conjunction with its release, including a UK tour with The New Pornographers.
