Berghain 04 Part I by Martyn/Roman Lindau

This little fella's the first of a series of samplers for Ben Klock's forthcoming Berghain mix CD. It's been a while since we've heard from our favourite purveyor of techno-flavoured Dutchstep but 'Miniluv' makes up for lost time with what I'd consider to be one of his best tracks so far, laying the classic house riffs on heavy and keeping things sounding light and nimble while retaining those trademark fleet-footed 2-step rhythms that he's known for. As you'd expect, the production is absolutely top drawer. Roman Lindau brings the depth with a stomach-churning bass dipper which runs right the way through 'Keppra', an industrially-tinged track which feeds elements in an out with expert timing to craft quite an excellent result which should appeal to fans of the likes of Shed or even the Chain Reaction crowd. Undoubtedly one of the best 12"s I've heard for a while!

* This is the first of three samplers (parts I&II on vinyl, part III digital only), showcasing some of the exclusive newtracks chosen for Ben Klock's forthcoming Berghain 04 mix compilation.* Martyn is the Dutch Producer and Dj who since 2005 has graced the electronic world with a heavy and steady streamof genre-defining original productions and remixes. The success of his hybrid dubstep-techno sound really came intofruition with last year's long-player 'Great Lengths' on his own 3024 label, and following his hyperactive remix of Shed's'Another Wedged Chicken', we present 'Miniluv.' Stepping around a more solid 4/4 framework, yet typically dubbed, warmelements breeze by as an ethereal theme emerges amongst the lovingly placed dusty grooves.* Berlin based Roman Lindau is one of the central figures behind the illusive and industrious Fachwerk label, whoseunique, metallic dub-techno has enjoyed rather a lot of attention over the last few years. His contribution, in the shape of'Keppra' is a solid, experimentally-edged slice of atmospheric club music. Balancing on the precipice between harmonyand dischord, it's an imensly powerful recording, conjuring images of industrial works, iron foundries and sunkenwarehouses at its heart. Purist techno for 2010 and beyond.
