She releasedher first solo album Hips and Makers in 1994 duringa break from the band, which went on to swiftly outsell allher previous efforts. Hersh continues to record and performin Throwing Muses, her other band 50FOOTWAVE and asa solo artist.Cats and Mice captures a unique solo performance presentedcomplete and unedited, recorded amid the lush acousticsof San Francisco s fabled jazz club Yoshi s. The set listdraws deep from the well of Appalachian folk songs andmurder ballads that her grandparents taught her, whichtypically feature in her rare Shady Circle appearances atpeople s homes.
