Fiction - Curiosity / Zebra Crossing

Curiosity / Zebra Crossing by Fiction

4...according to our on Fri 11 Jun, 2010.

Fiction do a kind of lop sided indie pop thing which reminds me of a whole host of bands you'll probably not remember from the 80's/90's. Hellfire Sermons anyone? The main influence I would say would be Josef K. Basslines are funky, guitars are scratchy and drums are scattershot. There are plenty of melodic structural quirks that keep an old cynic like me happy. This is their debut single and they've only been going a year which is fairly impressive even in today's quick moving society. The B side again catches the ear with a throbbing rhythm which bursts into an unexpected dubby chorus. Been listening to their PIL and early Scritti Politti maybe. This record is extremely impressive.

London quartet , FICTION are set to release their debut single on Offset Recordings, the first release on the new label from the people behind the Offset Festival.  A double A Side release featuring ‘Curiosity’ and ‘Zebra Crossing’, the debut single is released on limited seven inch vinyl and available to download. Formed last year, the FICTION line up of siblings Mike Barrett ((Vocals / drums / keyboard), and Nick Barrett (guitar) is completed by Daniel Djan (bass) and James Howard (Vocals / drums / guitar). Their twitchy pop and infectious warm harmonies combined with dark, post-industrial gloom has attracted a growing fan base over the last few months. They’ve recorded sessions for BBC Radio One and 6Music, as well as live spots at the likes of Off Modern, Fabric, Swn Festival, White Heat and Adults – a night they run with Is Tropical. With melodies diving around pounding drumbeats that build up into moments of perfect joy. FICTION’S idiosyncratic approach to music makes them one on the most exciting live bands around.
