Leeds based Girl-Boy-Girl mutant new wavers Beards are total winners! Their debut 'Brick by Boulder' is brimming with punk rock infused dance nasties and some of the toughest riffs i've heard in time. Notable for their outstanding interplay, infectious, chunky bass lines, hyperactive guitars, propulsive synths and loose new wave beats, Beards have forged a sound that sits somewhere between early Arab on Radar, The Units and The Minutemen with hints of UK d.i.y outsiders Bilge Pump and Cleckhuddersfax in there for good measure. Whether they are rocking the big riff (like on opener 'Gold medal'), taking on a funky prog number (as on 'Tried Searching (Searched Trying)) or simply kicking it mutato-disco-punk style (as on 'Could do better') Beards are always comfortable and self assured. The result is an exceptional debut from one of Leeds finest groups. A must MUST have album.
Brand new 11 tracker from Beards.
350 vinyls pressed at the old EMI plant.
"Channelling unnatural punk forces from beyond, Leeds' Beards are the outsider-pop twin of a bastard daughter of Units and Kleenex. a girl-boy-girl synth-guitar sandwich, the group have built on Minutemenesque virtuoso playing and injected a pop disease into the choruses. The result is a fierce record with lashings of hooks and propulsion." Rough Trade
