The Hundred In The Hands - This Desert

This Desert by The Hundred In The Hands

Oh Warp. Still releasing some cracking records amongst a few poor ones. How will their latest signings bear up? The music is analog sounding electronic pop with lady vocals. Listening to a record like this you start to realise how good Broadcast actually are; The space in their music, the amazing production (last album excepted). This aims for similar territory but is a little over polished and comes out just like any other band messing around with synths. Track 3 'Ghosts' goes into affected early '80's guitar mode and is a little better for it though the vocal melody is straight from a Joy Division song. 'Sleepwalkers' has a decent catchy melody and vocally recalls Dubstar of all people. Phil says that after his third listen it is starting to grow. 'Sleepwalkers' is definitely the highlight. Overall although the release is not bad at all just not exceptional or different enough to rise above the hideous amounts of records coming out each week.

• The Hundred In The Hands are Eleanore Everdell and Jason Friedman, and ‘This Desert’ is their new mini album, featuring six brand new tracks. It follows the release of their single ‘Dressed In Dresden’, a track described as “A stone-cold killer tune” by FACT, and “nonchalant vocals, juddering guitars with rumbling doom bass” by NME. • The new mini album takes a darker twist without losing their intimate knowledge of a pop hook or driven beat. Lead tracks ‘Ghosts’ and ‘Tom Tom’ are currently raising eyebrows online and at radio. • The band will play their first UK shows in 2010 in the run up to release, playing three Camden shows in late April / early May (including two headline performances at London’s Barfly and Dingwalls). In addition to this appetite-whetting run, the band are about to be confirmed for some major UK festivals across the Summer. • An album will follow later in the year featuring all-new tracks. • ‘This Desert’ is limited to 500 copies on CD, and 250 copies on LP
