Pure Moods EP by Cave

Some how i managed to miss Cave's big breakthrough LP 'Psychic Psummer' but i did pick up the totally awesome Hunt Like Devil/Jamz LP which has spent many an hour rotating on the record deck. Going from Hunt Like Devil/Jamz to Pure Moods is a massive leap, first off it's obvious that someone has given them some money to record which can often be devastating for a group of this kind, after all why bother when you already sound great recorded to 8-track in your house for penitence. Saying that, Cave aren't suffering for it at all. If anything it's only aiding them on their Can does Amon Duul II mission statement. This is certainly a cleaner, more concise outing than previous works and being able to appreciate the blend of synths, guitars and bass forming into one gelatinous lump of psychedelic mayhem is utterly refreshing and those repeato riffs are just so damn satisfying. Get stuck into the psych rock kids, you won't regret it. Oh, Drag City...if you are reading this...you should sign Quack Quack and put out their new album on vinyl, it's the shit yo! PEACE OUT!

• The same cosmic jammers who brought you 2009’s ‘Psychic Psummer’ will have you on your feet dancing one moment and the next you’ll be nodding off in a hypnotic trance with ‘Pure Moods’. • “Chicago's CAVE spiritually hail from a weird quadrant where the German pulse of Can and Amon Duul II overlap post-punk Britain” - Rolling Stone.
