Behold! A Pale Horse by Viva L'American Death Ray Music

Viva L'American Death Ray Music is the work of one super dude Nicolas Ray whose been churning out crazy Velvet Underground inspired tracks since way back in the 90's. Behold! A Pale Horse features four hybrid post punk/new wave/dub style compositions that touch on VU, The Fall and Can as well as pretty much everything that evolved from the late 70's/early 80's u.k punk and experimental scene. 'I am Killer Yello' reminds me of early Bad Brains dub excursions, keeping things light, simple and danceable. 'Out of the Pink' touches on Joy Division bleakness whilst entertaining with great synths and ultra dark overtones whilst final track 'Behold! Pt. 1' spaces things out with a hypnotic blend of repetitious guitars and drony background sounds. All four tracks are unique and ace in their own way which qualifies this EP for recommendation status. Totally ace.

Brainchild of Memphis native Nicholas Ray, Viva L’American Death Ray Music has been chugging along since the late ‘90s, pushing against the walls of VU-inspired garage choogle into abstract dimensions reminiscent of the Fall, and moreover of late’70s/early ‘80s UK DIY rock, punk, and experimental music. Clouds of synth, hiss and fuzz gracefully frame their hybrid glam/punk/dub sounds across five full-lengths, with a new one coming soon via Mexican Summer. Four essential tracks packaged in an incredible, faux-Folkways package.
