Slow As An Eyeball by Quack Quack

5...according to our on Thu 20 May, 2010.

Another week, another essential slice of creative fun from the murky, festering depths of the Leeds underground music scene, this time from scene favorites and kraut-pop manipulators Quack Quack. Created as a fresh outlet for mega-drummer and Bilge Pump sticksman Neil Turpin, it was obvious from the first time he hit the stage with Stuart Bannister (bass) and keyboardist /second drummer Richard Morris aka Moz (Chops, Two Minute Noodles, The Declining Winter, Pifco) that he had stumbled upon another winning formula. Drawing primarily on krautrock, jazz and prog whilst embracing the more peculiar elements of rock 'n' pop, Quack Quack have created an uplifting, crowd-friendly sound that has listeners going nuts! Nuts over an instrumental band, wonders will never cease! Where other instrumental groups have tried and failed to capture the energy and enthusiasm of what is commonly known as post-rock, Quack Quack have nailed it on the head, so much so that it's very rarely mentioned that they are a either a post-rock or an instrumental group. I shouldn't go on and on (i've got records to pack, you know) but if you want to hear exciting music played with enthusiasm, skill and conviction and you prefer dancing and fun to chin-stroking and headphone music, then this is the group for you. I couldn't recommend them highly enough...it's practically making me cry just thinking about how good this is. I'm not joking.

Slow As An Eyeball is the debut album by Yorkshire-based instrumental trio Quack Quack. Quack Quack draw on pop, prog, afrobeat and krautrock for inspiration. The band is comprised of drummer Neil Turpin (Bilge Pump, Polaris, HiM), Stuart Bannister (bass) and keyboardist/second drummer Richard Morris aka Moz (Chops, Two Minute Noodles, The Declining Winter, Pifco), Turpin was described as one of the best drummers I have seen. He made me feel like a one-trick pony by Lightning Bolt s Brian Chippendale in a Pitchfork interview. Slow As An Eyeball features guest appearances from the album s producer Richard Formby (Spectrum) and Seb Rochford and Pete Wareham (both from Polar Bear/Acoustic Ladyland/Fulborn Teversham) Quack Quack released the Quack Quack EP in 2005 and 7 Mars / The Great Catsby in 2006 on Run Of The Mill Records, The band have played their enthralling and energetic live set with the likes of Deerhoof, Jeffrey Lewis and Scout Niblett live as well as touring the UK with Fulborn Teversham and Pit Er Pat.An appearance at End Of The Road festival in 2009 earned great plaudits. The band have a UK tour planned for May and will resume touring in the UK and Europe in the autumn. Will appeal to fans of Beak>, Lightning Bolt, Stereolab, Tortoise, Boredoms and Nisennenmondai

PRESS: "The elder statesfreaks of the Leeds underworld that make up Quack Quack hurl their krautpop nonsense about with a ferocity that engulfs an adoring crowd. The world becomes a cartoon. When Neil Turpin plays drums with one hand, it s as though he plays with three. Moz leaps from kit to synth, to crowd, to kit again with the agility of a gurning baboon."Plan B on Quack Quack live "Almighty and mental" Clash on Quack Quack at End Of The Road 2009 these are quality songs, and that they ll sit easily on the palette of any post-rock or jazz fan 8/10 Drowned In Sound
